Google Kills Picnik
Jan/21/2012 11:51 AM Filed in: Industry News

Google has the habit of creating failed projects and then killing them.
But what is most sordid about the company is the way it sabotages some honest endeavors.
Anyway, the latest strike is on Picnik, which it had acquired and today It decided to dump it.
Imagine if Yahoo does the same to Flickr!
Photography is a passion, not just a business. Google execs need to understand this at some point.
Well, Picnik was great while it lasted. So long! Its just a tragedy that Google could not sustain Picnik for even two decent years…
Kodak Prepares to Die

Sad, but imminent.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Kodak has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
This is a stark reminder of how film photography has officially died.

"Kodak is taking a significant step toward enabling our enterprise to complete its transformation," Kodak CEO Antonio Perez said in a statement.
"Chapter 11 gives us the best opportunities to maximize the value in two critical parts of our technology portfolio: our digital capture patents ... and our breakthrough printing and deposition technologies, which give Kodak a competitive advantage in our growing digital businesses."
Perez pointed out the fact that the company has effectively moved away from its traditional film operations, "closing 13 manufacturing plants and 130 processing labs, and reducing our workforce by 47,000 since 2003."
